Organic Christmas trees accepted at Courtesy Drop Site

Lights, ornaments and stands must be removed

LITTLE ELM (December 5, 2017) Once the holidays end, the Christmas gifts are opened, and the wrapping paper has been gathered and placed in the recycling bin, it will be time to bid farewell to the Christmas tree.

Little Elm’s Public Works Department makes this an easy proposition by accepting organic trees at the Courtesy Drop Site, 1600 Brenda Lane.  Recycled trees, which can be accepted before or after Christmas, will be chipped into mulch for use locally.

The Courtesy Drop Site, with its entrance off Eldorado Parkway, one block west of Preston on the Lakes, is open on Fridays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The only day the site will close is Christmas Eve, Sunday, Dec. 24.  The site will remain open during regular hours on New Year’s Eve, Sunday, Dec. 31.

Trees should be completely stripped of all ornaments, tinsel, garland, aluminum icicles, lights, electric cords, strings and other decorations.  Trees must also be removed from stands, wooden or metal, and should not be wrapped in plastic or paper.

There is no charge for this service.
