The groundbreaking ceremony for what's currently known as the Little Elm Aquatic Park was held Wednesday, August 7, at 4:30 p.m. at the Little Elm Recreation Center Gym.
The 42,000 square-foot aquatic park will be adjacent to the Recreation Center and will feature a double FlowRider® indoor wave surfing machine, slides, an activity pool, two lap lanes, a large play structure, splash pad, and fun for the entire family.
Attendees at the event included Mayor David Hillock, members of the Little Elm Town Council, representatives from the Economic Development Corporation board, the Community Development Corporation Board, representatives from project partners, Town employees, residents, and other community stakeholders.
"We are thrilled to begin this project and give the community a one-of-a-kind, awesome amenity that can be used year-round," said Town Manager Matt Mueller.
The Aquatic Park is expected to be completed in early 2021.
The Town of Little Elm is crowdsourcing a name for the aquatic park. Participants can share their name ideas for the aquatic park online at www.littleelmaquaticpark.com for a chance to win a free family membership good for both the aquatic park and the Little Elm Recreation Center.
