Little Elm Police Respond to Call of Suspicious Package

Update (July 1, 2019)

Last night, the Little Elm Police Department Night Shift Supervisor received a call from the owner of the property listed as the return address on the suspicious package dropped off at Button Methodist Church on Sunday, June 30.

The caller, who now lives in California, explained to the supervisor that she had asked a friend to ship a package of Halloween and Christmas decorations to her. It is unknown why the person took the package to Button Methodist.

After the call yesterday, we received some questions and concerns regarding the incident and the potential of a threat or test of our response times. We assure the public that there is no threat to our stakeholders, and the situation has been resolved.

LITTLE ELM, TEXAS. (June 30, 2019). The Little Elm Police Department responded to a call at 9: 31 a.m. of a suspicious package at Button Methodist Church at 101 Eldorado Parkway in Little Elm.

An unknown man walked into the church and gave the package to a church staff member, asking the staffer to mail the package for him. The package was addressed to an address in California and had a return address of a vacant property in Little Elm.

The church was evacuated to Hula Hut, where Sunday morning services continued.

Due to concerns about the package contents, a bomb-detecting canine unit from the University of North Texas Police Department was dispatched.

The package was deemed safe by the bomb detection unit and opened. It's contents were found to be assorted holiday decorations, including Halloween and Christmas decor.

Although there was no criminal offense, LEPD is still attempting to locate the individual.
