The Little Elm Police Department hosted the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 27 at the Public Safety Center. Little Elm residents cleared out their medicine cabinets and brought their unwanted prescription drugs to officers at the center for proper disposal. The drug take back occurs twice a year. It’s a safe, convenient, and anonymous means of properly disposing your unwanted prescription medications.
The Drug Enforcement Administration tracks every box that is collected by law enforcement during this event, they are also responsible for the destruction of these medications. Unwanted medications dropped off at LEPD filled nine boxes that totaled in weight to just over 200 pounds! That’s 200 pounds of prescription drugs that did not reach our water supply, 200 pounds of dangerous drugs that did not reach the wrong hands! Overall, 169 Law Enforcement Agencies in the North Texas region collected over 43,000 pounds of medication.
LEPD is extremely proud of the participation and we hope to see more involvement on Oct. 26, when we host the next DTB day. If you cannot wait until then to dispose of these unwanted prescription drugs, please stop by Little Elm Pharmacy (800 W. Eldorado Parkway, #100, 972-294-2877), they can help.
