The Little Elm Fire Department Auxiliary (LEFDA) is presenting its 11th Annual Charity Golf Tournament. This tournament supports the LEFDA First Responder Recovery Fund, where funds collected are given to a First Responder or their family in the case of injury or loss of life while on duty. The tournament also supports the LEFDA Public Fire Safety Education Fund, where donations are given to support Little Elm Fire Department public programs such as its annual Open House, Santa Around Town, and the Citizens Fire Academy.
This year’s tournament is scheduled for Friday, April 19 at the Tribute Golf Club, 1000 Lebanon Road in The Colony, Texas. This course offers a unique Scottish links-style golf experience that pays homage to legendary courses, complete with wind-swept dunes and sea-washed grasses.
The tournament utilizes a scramble playing format for teams of four golfers. Check-in begins at 11 a.m., ball drop at 12:30 p.m. and shotgun start at 1 p.m. Registration is available online at www.lefdagolf.com and will remain open until Friday, April 12. Fees are $125 per individual ($25 discount for military, police, and firefighters) or $400 per foursome. A portion of the entry fee is tax deductible.
Tournament activities include the highly-popular ball drop event, in which golf balls, marked with numbers corresponding to tickets purchased separately, will be dropped from an extended ladder of a fire truck. The holder of the ticket corresponding to the ball landing either in or closest to the hole will win a gun valued at $750.
This year’s event will also feature three hole-in-one opportunities where participants can play at three different designated par-three holes for a chance to win one of these prizes: a car sponsored by Huffines in Corinth; $20,000 cash (50/50 split); or $2500 cash. There will also be a “Hole-in-Two” opportunity, where a donation gives players the chance to utilize a golf pro who will drive their ball 300+ yards! If you make the hole in two, you will win a 3-day trip for two to Pebble Beach, California (a $5000 value).
There is an award dinner at the end of the tournament, which is included in the registration fee. Raffle prizes (tickets purchased separately) will also be awarded during the dinner.
Sponsors for this year’s event include Siddons-Martin, Emergicon, Huffines Kia Subaru Corinth, Credit Union of Texas, PHI Air Medical, L.L.C., and ZipIt Postal Center.
