New Year, New You

bigstock----New-Years-Resolutions-Wit-273076354

Have you made your New Year's Resolutions yet? Like many of us, you've probably considered things like making more time for family and friends, saving more money or paying off debt and unplugging from electronics more often. But, have you considered resolving to improve your health?

Here are some reasons why you should make 2019 your year to get healthy:

There's no time like the present. We can all be guilty of procrastination, but the sooner you start, the better of you'll be. The longer you wait to start, the harder it will be, and it is much easier to say "I'll start next week/month/or year" than it is to actually get started.

Improved health means improved longevity. Want to live longer? Improving your health now could mean living longer and better in the long run. Studies have shown that people who work out regularly can help weight loss, improve aerobic and cardiac function and lower blood pressure. Working out also helps bolster your immune system and protect you from infection and other chemical toxins.

People who work out regularly have a lower risk of serious illness, such as heart attack, diabetes, and stroke.

Exercising improves your mental state. Ever notice improved mood or a rush after you exercise? It's no coincidence. Studies show that exercise can improve mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative attitude. Working out can also help to improve self-esteem and even improve cognition and your memory.

Make 2019 your year to take control of your health. Resolve to eat healthily, hit one of our many hike and bike trails, join the Little Elm Recreation Center, or sign up with a personal trainer.

Learn more about the Recreation Center and what the Parks and Recreation Department has to offer at our Annual Open House on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Little Elm Recreation Center at 303 Main St. The event will feature class demonstrations, program information, tours, raffles, swag, and giveaways.

We are also offering a membership special! Sign up for a monthly auto draft for your membership and get the first month free! We are offering this special from Jan. 2-18.
