Beginning Jan. 2, 2019, some Town of Little Elm departments will move to new operating hours to better serve residents.
The change in hours is part of a new pilot program to provide extended customer service hours to meet the needs of those individuals coming into Town Hall to request permits, pay utility bills, and conduct general business.
The new hours, which will be Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., will affect administrative offices, including the Town Manager’s office, Finance, Utility Billing, Information Technology, Human Resources, administrative personnel in Parks and Recreation, Fire, and Development Services (except for building inspectors). The Library, Animal Services, Recreation Center and Senior Center, and Police and Fire service personnel will maintain their current hours.
The new customer service schedule will allow customers the opportunity to take care of things at Town Hall before and after traditional work hours, on their way to or on the way home from work. Fridays are low-customer traffic days for Town Departments, so we believe that shifting our hours will allow us to serve more customers during a time frame that benefits them the most.
From May 2018 to August 2018, the Development Services department analyzed how many customers they served on Fridays between 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and found it was an average of eight people per Friday. Most of the inquiries were for garage sale permits and to ask questions regarding services that could be done online. The Utility Services Department also evaluated their customer traffic on Fridays and found that the majority of those who contacted or came into the office came in for information about new accounts setup, bill payments, and toll tags.
