National Drug Take-Back Day is October 27

Document

The Little Elm Police Department Drug Take-Back Day is scheduled for October 27, 2018, from10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Little Elm Public Safety Building located at 88 W. Eldorado Parkway, Little Elm, TX 75068.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is a national program put on by the United States Drug Enforcement Agency and local police departments across the country. The program aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs. An additional goal of the program is to educate the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.

According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The results of the study also found that the majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, and very often from the home medicine cabinet.

The Little Elm Police Department partners with The Little Elm Pharmacy during the event to take back unwanted, used, and expired medications. Medications not accepted during National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day include ointments or creams, injectables, liquids, and controlled substances, including narcotic pain medications.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day takes place both in the spring and the fall. However, The Little Elm Pharmacy takes back medications year round. The pharmacy is located at 800 W. Eldorado Parkway, Little Elm, TX, 75068 and can be reached at 972-294-2877.

For questions regarding National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, contact LEPD Sgt. John Samples at jsamples@littleelm.org or 214-975-0460.
