Town seeking volunteers for board and commission
Interested residents should apply online
LITTLE ELM (February 6, 2018) Openings on two important advisory bodies within the Little Elm governance structure provide opportunities for residents to become part of the Town’s decision-making process.
Currently, the Planning & Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment are looking for up to five Little Elm residents who are willing to devote time and energy to the work entrusted to these two important committees.
Members of these boards are appointed by the Town Council from the list of individuals who request their names to be placed in consideration for appointment. An application, available online at http://www.littleelm.org/FormCenter/Boards-and-Commission-Application-3/Boards-and-Commission-Application-34, must be completed in order to be considered for one of the positions.
Once completed, eligible applicants will be asked to meet with a panel of Town Council members for an interview to determine the highest level of suitability for the open positions.
Deadline for submission of the applications is 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 20. Candidate Interviews will take place the following Friday afternoon, Feb. 23.
The Planning & Zoning Commission receives and reviews rezoning requests, ordinance revisions, plat approvals, comprehensive planning, tree preservation, and other issues regarding new growth and existing development in the Town. Following their deliberation, the Commission members submit recommendations to the Town Council on issues that come before them. The seven members and two alternates serve three-year staggered terms and meet on the first and third Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
The Board of Adjustment, on the other hand, conducts hearings and makes determinations on requests for variances and exceptions to the Town’s zoning ordinances. It also has authority to hear and decide on appeals to zoning-related decisions. The five members of this board meet on an as-needed basis.
Questions regarding these two boards can be directed to the Town’s Planning Department at (214) 975-0472.
