Building Safety is a division of the Development Services Department and is responsible for the review, issuance, and inspection of development related permits and the issuance of the Certificates of Occupancy throughout the Town and the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ). The Building Safety Division also assists with processing annual registrations such as health permits, alcohol permits, septic permits, and rental registrations. A list of fees for these can be found on the Development Services Fee Schedule or MyGov's Fee Estimator can be used to estimate fees.

The Town of Little Elm has adopted the following construction codes that provide minimum standards during the building process to help ensure public safety:

Please Note
There is a popular misconception that home owners may perform work on their homes without acquiring a permit. This notion is incorrect. Home owners may perform some work that normally requires a licensed tradesman, such as a plumber or electrician, but permits are still required to be obtained.
